When Something Doesn't Work, You Can Fix It (Updated) Aug 1, '09 10:37 PM
by Linda for everyone
1. Log out. Clean your temp files and cookies THOROUGHLY to include your computer temp files. CLICK HERE for more information.
2. Browser Settings: Tools, Options, ALLOW!! Cookies, Javascript, Images and Flash. If you are using any kind of script blocker, you must ALLOW Multiply's elements or some of your features are not going to work.
3. UPDATE! Your Operating system, (Windows Updates) your Browsers (current versions) and for EACH BROWSER you must update JAVA, & FLASH for EACH browser you use. It's recommended that you have at least TWO current version and supported browsers installed in case one of your browsers causes you a problem or fails, and you can diagnose this by trying a second Multiply supported browser. (Firefox, IE or Safari)
Don't forget to update Adobe Air (if you use the Multiply Auto Uploader)
4. UPDATE your Multiply Toolbar. The Multiply Toolbar has been updated since Browser updates have been released. You can usually install them on each browser without uninstalling the previous one.
5. SECURITY SOFTWARE Settings - Check them! Diagnose and make the necessary adjustments in your Security Software! You may not have changed a thing but one of your updates for your security software could have made the change without you knowing it. Check any security software and firewall to Allow Multiply (and especially any privacy settings that are now included in most security software packages)
6. Diagnose, disable and remove any browser add on or toolbar that can be causing this error. This can include adblocker programs that interfere with your Multiply features (especially blog/compose).
Firefox has a great self-diagnosing tool. Close Firefox. Start, All Programs, Mozilla, FIREFOX SAFEMODE. Leave the boxes UNTICKED, continue. If your feature now works, it's one of your addons or toolbars. Disable and remove as needed.
7. REBOOT. Now try it again with your usual browser and your second updated browser with updated flash and java installed on EACH)
8. If none of the above fixes your issue, REMOVE any custom css you have in your CSS editing box if you are using a custom theme, change to a different base theme, and try again. Many times, a custom theme code can cause the slightest of issues and disable or hide some features. If that's the cause, repair or replace your theme code with another. For CSS assistance, please join MULTIPLY DESIGN .
9. HTML added to a site can sometimes disable features entirely or wreck a page. Remove any obvious html from your site, like in the title areas which are usually the worst offenders.
10. Third party code is another offender of web pages. If the code breaks, doesn't work or isn't fully allowed, you'll find a multitude of issues. Again, avoid over populating your title areas with third party code.
REGARDING JAVASCRIPT ERROR MESSAGES IN BLOG COMPOSE:
1. Tick the html box on the blog/compose window. Anything there BESIDES < br > ? Look familiar? Can you tell where it came from by looking at the code there? You may have a browser addon that's inserting hidden code/macros or it could be coming from your copy/paste of another web page or email.
It can also come from some text editing programs like WORD. You'll need to find what is inserting the code and correct that problem or it's just going to continue happening. (Word will cause it - USE NOTEPAD instead)
2. Once you find what's causing it, log out, close browser and clean your temp files and then try again. If necessary, tick the html box and EMPTY the box (highlight and backspace over it if you find something has inserting hidden code and you don't know how to manually edit it). UNTICK the html box.
3. Type your post OR... paste your text into NOTEPAD first, and then copy AND paste FROM Notepad to your blog/compose box.
4. Insert images either by using the Image Icon Upload Button on the blog compose window, or use one of the other methods like drag and drop from one of your albums in a second window, or writing your own html code (with the html box ticked)
NOTE: If your typed html code has errors, or your image link is incorrect or broken, either your image won't display or you may still get the error message.
MAKE SURE you have tried ALL suggestions here, and not just one or two, though you can try them one at a time if you wish. Because this is what we will have to tell you to do when something isn't working for you.
MOST times, ONE or two of these suggestions will fix a feature issue, because most issues are a result of a browser or computer setting which can be easily diagnosed and corrected if you follow each of these steps.
If you have done each step listed here and are still having an issue, please post a new note and include what you have done as listed here, to diagnose the problem.
Please don't say "I've done everything" - We don't know what YOUR everything is and it may not be the everything listed here. Please tell us what your browser is (and version) and exactly what you've done.
